bathroom pedestal sinksPedestal sinks are becoming a popular feature in modern American bathrooms. Although they are not much different than wall mounted or under mounted sinks there are a few key way in which they differ from other sinks. Consider these options before you decide what kind of sink to use in your bathroom.

Many people appreciate the appearance of bathroom pedestal sinks. This is especially true if your plumbing is visible under the sink. Typically, they take up a bit less space than wall mounted sinks which makes your bathroom appear more open and spacious. They are also sturdier than other types of sinks.

Many people have a dresser under their sink that has the double purpose of hiding the piping and adding storage space to your bathroom. If you install a pedestal sink you will lose this storage space, though it will make your bathroom appear more open. In addition if you are choosing the route of self-installation, a pedestal sink is a bit more labor intensive to install then a conventional sink. Make sure you measure the sink’s height and length of the piping very precisely or you will encounter problems. Paying a professional to install a pedestal sink should not cost more than any other type of sink installation.

A lot of people have a soaking tub as part of their bathroom set up. But most people tend to just take showers and don’t really experience all that a tub has to offer. I recently realized how much I was taking mine for granted. I had just been hopping in and out of the shower for years, never taking the time to enjoy a real bath. So I decided this week that I would. And I did, twice.  It was the most relaxing experience I’ve had in years. I realized that I was missing out on my soaking tub just because I didn’t want to take the time out to fill the tub and actually relax in it. But when I stopped running around for a few minutes and let myself just enjoy it, it was wonderful.

If you do invest in a soaking tub, make sure you take the time out to use it. Don’t let it just sit there, wasting away. It’s going to do and your aching muscles well. And it’ll help you slow down a little bit, enjoy the moment, before you rush off to do whatever is next on your agenda.
